Quilt Sampler News

Jamie and I just returned from Quilt Market and I would say that it was the best one ever!  The fabrics that we will be receiving in the next 6 months are breathtaking.  From Amy Butler and the funky modern to rich traditional fabric and new cheaters cloth which is now called “convenience cloth”.  Lots of new books and patterns using jelly rolls (2 ½” strips) and charm packs (5 ½” squares).

Needle punch is still hot and we brought back new patterns.  We are expanding to carry the punch rugs using wool yarns.  It basically punches the same way, but because of the size of yarn it goes so much faster AND you can make larger projects such as floor rugs, chair cushions and wall hangings. 

We hope to see you soon so we can show you all the new projects.

Blocks of the Month

 Monthly Mini’s  from Patch Abilities.  Cute 6” x 22” wall hangings designed to change out each month.  Some come with matching buttons, others with a coordinating hanger.  Jan is a skier with a snowflake hanger. July is a sandcastle with cute flip flop buttons.  The prices will vary from $16 to $23 depending on what extras come with the fabrics.  These are the perfect size to put in that narrow space by a door or window .

Garden Party by Maggie Walker.

62” x 32”.  A 5 month block of the month that is the perfect size for behind a couch or above a buffet.  This beautiful quilt has easy pieced backgrounds with  beautiful appliquéd chickens and roosters.  We will have the original on display  the month of June, so stop by and see it.  Pattern $10 month, Kit $27 month.

This wool appliqué on flannel quilt features hand-dyed and felted wools.  Each of the blocks could be framed or made into a pillow, or combined to make a beautiful heirloom quilt.  Use variegated or over-dyed threads for a truly one-of-a-kind look.  The finishing kit for the appliquéd borders will be offered as the quilt is nearer completion.  Kits are limited, so sign up soon!

Bernina News

Bernina University is in July and it promises to bring us new accessories.  We know that the Activa 210 is being launched this month.  It is a great beginner machine as well as a second machine to carry to class.  It is an affordable price while still having all of the Bernina quality that we love.

There is a new software program for garment sewers.  Its called My Label and it creates the perfect outfit for you!  Simply put your measurements in and the pattern will morph into your size.  There is a fabric library so you can preview your outfit before you cut it out.  Then simply print your pattern out and sew!

Remember this is Berninas  75th anniversary.  All Aurora and Artista machines will come with a limited edition music box that has a replica of one of the first Bernina machines on the top.

Bernina Educator is Coming!

Many of you have asked for it, and now you got it!  Nina  McVeigh  from Bernina will be here for 2 days, August 24th and 25th.  On Friday the 24th she will be working with the Bernina Stitch Regulator.  You will create a project using many different applications of the BSR.  From free motion quilting, free motion embroidery, and even beading.  This will be a fun and informative full day class.  The class fee is $50 plus supplies.  If you do not have the BSR we will provide you one to use during class.  A great way to try it before you buy it!

On Saturday the 25th Nina will be working with the Bernina software version 5.  The program is Software At Large.  A hands on all day class on creating large designs using the multi hooping feature.  Learn how to split designs using the hoop- it- all and mega hoop.  Do you know how to sew outside the hoop?  A day packed with learning more about your Bernina software.  Class fee is $50 and a laptop is required.  We have several laptops if you can’t bring yours, but they go fast, so request one when signing up.

Pfaff News

A new machine is in the horizon!  A new top of the line Pfaff sewing/embroidery machine will make its debut at Pfaff convention the first of September.  They have kept it top secret .  So far all we know is it has 43 new features.  One of the new features is it has the largest embroidery field in the consumer industry.  From this we can only guess that it will have a longer arm which is what we have all been asking for.

Don’t wait for the new machine to come out.  We have 2 great packages on the current top of the line, the Pfaff Creative 2170.  This way you can enjoy the machine now, with a 1 year trade up to the new machine only paying the price difference!

Quilt CAD Software

A must for all machine quilters!  Create quilt layouts that range in size from 2” x 2” to 14 feet!  Create your own patterns or import designs.  This software has editing  features such as stretch, flip, rotate, copy, paste, move etc.  Use Mirroring Functions designing beautiful patterns through the repetition and symmetry of mirrors.  Automatic Border Creation - Orients and connects patterns into continuous borders and so much more.  Once you have created you can print to scale.  Pages are numbered and calibrated for precise alignment.  Priced at $120.

New Die Cutting System at the QS!

We recently purchased a die cutting  system that will allow us to cut our own 2 ½” strips,  cut rag time quilts with the “rags” pre cut for you ,  as well as many more template shapes.  What this means is you can soon get kits with all of the pieces pre cut for you!  Think how quick a rag time quilt will go with all of the pieces and batting pre-cut!  There are several Yellow Brick Road type patterns that use the shapes that we have.  If you have fabric that you would like for us to cut for you we would be happy to.  Prices will vary depending on the project.

Family Violence Center

Remember that we are a drop off for toiletries, quilts and tote bags for the Family Violence Center.  They do so much for this community it is nice that we can do something for them.  We are planning a huge garage sale on the Plaza early this fall.  If you are interested in helping or have things to donate please contact Brad.  We would love for this to be an annual event, but we need your help!
