Beginning Prepared Edge Applique
Supply list for appliqué
- Black Identi-Pen or very fine tip felt pen
- Red Identi-Pen or red pencil
- Freezer Paper
- 4” Curved scissors (Kai or Dr. Slick or Fiskars)
- Regular Scissors---One to cut paper and another to cut
fabric
- Clover crafting iron...has a tiny ironing tip on the shaft OR
Cheries Cool Tool, And a travel size iron
- Small jar with lid
- Spray starch (Faultless or Niagara is recommended)
- Stiletto
- Quilter’s Cut and Press board (12” x 12”) OR a plywood 12”
sq. Covered with cotton batting with muslin or duck cloth
over the batting
- Fat quarter of muslin to cover your pressing board
- 1⁄4 or1/8 inch stencil brush (stiff bristles)
- 4” scissors with a very sharp point i.e. Kai, Omnigrid
- Roxanne’s Glue-Baste-It - basting glue
- 1⁄4 ” - 1⁄2” ```bias tape maker
- Needle for hand work. Size 11 straw or sharps needle,
Thimble if you use one
- Writing paper and pencil to take notes
Fabric you will need for the class project: a flower - (can be
made into a mug rug, a small pillow, put on a bag....)
1. 12” x 12” piece of fabric for the background, any color
2. A few pieces of fabric scraps (no smaller than 4” square)
or fat quarters of your choice to make the flower.
3. Thread to match fabrics. Metler, DMC thread, Superior
threads (50-70 weight is recommended).
Before class - cut your background fabric to 12” x 12”. To
keep the edge of your fabric from fraying, sew a basting
stitch around your background fabric 1⁄4” from the outside
edge, or cut your outside fabric edge with pinking shears or
pinking edge rotary cutter. I will bring mine.
