Get into the Halloween spirit while learning the basics of quilting with this fun Quilted BOO Pillow project.

This class is a great introduction to quilting for those who are ready to build their skills while making something other than a traditional quilt. You'll piece colorful fabrics together to create the BOO design, then work with batting and layered fabrics to turn your pieced project into a finished decorative pillow.

Quilting isn't just for quilts! This project is a fun way to learn traditional quilting skills while creating a seasonal piece you'll be excited to display.

What you will learn

Beginner-friendly quilting and piecing techniques
How to work accurately with fabric pieces and blocks
How to layer fabric and batting for quilting
How quilting techniques can be used for projects beyond traditional quilts
How to create a finished decorative pillow project

What you'll need

Material Requirements

Letters: 8–10 cotton prints, using fat eighths or small scraps
Background Fabric: 5/8 yard
Pillow Back Fabric: 1/2 yard
Muslin: 1 yard
Binding Fabric: 1/4 yard

Tools Needed

Rotary cutter
Cutting mat
Quilting ruler
Pins and/or clips
Disappearing-ink fabric marker or tailor's chalk

Notions Needed

1 spool of thread
1 craft-size package of batting, approximately 34" × 45"

Also Bring

Sewing machine in good working order
Power cord and foot pedal
Machine manual, if needed
Basic sewing supplies
BOO Pillow pattern

Fabric Tip: This is a great scrap-friendly project. Choose 8–10 different cotton prints for the letters to create a colorful, playful BOO design.
